Inside the new mac

50 Tiles
Sijelo

Last week the carpet design was finalised.  Brinton's brought into the mac offices some full-scale samples of the carpet.  It was wonderful to see the design only previously seen small-scale on paper or computer come to life.  The sun was pouring through the window onto the pattern and it was at that point that I clearly appreciated how a public commission comes to life when it interacts with its surrounding space.  The colours were augmented by the experience and the sun added another dimension.

Senida one of the participants who contributed to the design was amazed at the first site of the real thing:
"Wow! and fantastic.  The carpet is a piece of art in itself.  It has been a lengthy process but all worth it.  We wanted to create something special, it is unique and I hope that people will come to love it as much as we do.  I feel proud to have taken part in creating a design meaningful to us and so beautiful".

The Sijelo design will not only be seen on carpet but also CNC cut into wooden wall panelling for the café area and water-jet cut into stone flooring for the main foyer.  The concept of transforming and echoing the Sijelo design around the building is becoming a reality and when mac
opens it will be seen translated to different surface textures.
